Getting to/from Nong Khai
Nong Khai is in Isaan (northeastern Thailand), on the banks of the Mekong. It’s 615km north of Bangkok.
It’s 25km to Vientiane in Laos over the Friendship Bridge, which is just outside Nong Khai (and visible from the Bridge bar, of course). Details on on crossing over here.
Udon Thani, site of the nearest proper airport in Thailand, is about 56km away by road.
You can get to and from Nong Khai by air, rail, bus, taxi (from Udon Thani) or even Tuk-tuk from immigration at the Friendship Bridge.

Getting around Nong Khai
Nong Khai isn’t big, but nobody seems to walk anywhere.
Tuk-tuk
Negotiable prices but expect 20-30 baht per person for a standard trip, more if you travel alone. You'll pay much more if you're picked up at the train station. If you’re coming from Laos you can get a tuk-tuk to/from the immigration point at the Friendship Bridge. It’ll set you back about 70 baht into the centre of town. More on crossing over the border here.
Motorcycle
Japanese 110cc mopeds are ubiquitous. You can hire one for about 200 baht per day (1,000 per week). Try the bloke sitting outside the entrance to the Mut Mee Guesthouse. We also rent out Luke’s Kawasaki when he’s not around. Picture of it in the gallery.
